Hospital management software price in India: what you actually pay in 2026

Ask five vendors what their hospital management software costs and you will get five answers in five shapes: a licence with maintenance, a per-user subscription, a per-bed rate, a module menu, or a flat plan. This guide explains each model, the costs that never appear on the first quote, and how to compare them honestly over three years.

The short answer

The price of an HMS in India depends far more on how a vendor charges than on what the software does. The same 30-bed hospital can be quoted a large one-time licence, a monthly fee that grows with every user, or a flat plan, and the cheapest-looking quote is often the most expensive over three years once setup, maintenance, messaging and add-ons are counted.

Curanto publishes its prices as one reference point: ₹999 a month for a single-doctor clinic, ₹5,999 a month for a nursing home of up to 30 beds, and ₹17,999 a month for a hospital of up to 150 beds, on yearly billing and excluding GST, with no per-user fees. Monthly billing costs 20% more, and larger groups are quoted per hospital.

The four ways HMS vendors charge

Most quotes you receive will be one of these four models, sometimes mixed. None is wrong on its own; each moves cost and risk to a different place.

Common pricing models for hospital management software in India
ModelHow it worksWhat to watch
One-time licence plus AMCA large upfront fee for the software, then an annual maintenance contract, usually a percentage of the licence, for updates and support.Servers and IT staff are usually yours. Upgrades may be charged separately, and the AMC rises as the licence grows.
Per-user subscriptionA monthly fee for each login, sometimes with a different rate for doctors and staff.Hospitals share logins to save money, which breaks the audit trail. Cost climbs with every nurse and receptionist you add.
Per-bed or per-module subscriptionA monthly fee that scales with bed count or with each module you switch on.The base module is cheap; pharmacy, lab, IPD and TPA each add a line. Price the full set you will need in year two.
Flat plan by sizeOne monthly price per tier, sized by doctors, beds and branches, with add-ons beyond the limits.Check what each tier includes and what an extra doctor, bed block or branch costs when you grow.

Costs that are not on the price list

The first quote rarely includes everything you will pay. Ask each vendor to put these in writing, even when the answer is zero.

  • Implementation and setup: masters, rate lists, print formats and user roles
  • Data migration from your current software or spreadsheets: patients, stock, open admissions and dues
  • Training for each role, and again for new staff
  • Hardware: an on-premise server, backup drives, printers, barcode scanners and a token display
  • Messaging: per-SMS or per-WhatsApp charges for reminders and reports
  • Customisation: new reports, print layouts or workflow changes billed as change requests
  • Integrations: lab analysers, PACS, ABDM and accounting exports
  • Support tiers, upgrade fees and the renewal increase in year two and three

A three-year cost worksheet

Put every quote through the same worksheet over 36 months. It turns a licence, a per-user plan and a flat plan into numbers you can compare side by side.

Curanto's published prices

Curanto prices hospitals by licensed beds and clinics per location, with no per-user fees. Prices exclude GST and are quoted for yearly billing; monthly billing costs 20% more. Onboarding, data import and on-site training are published as one-time fees on the pricing page, so the three-year cost is known before you sign. The table below is read from the same price list as the pricing page.

Every hospital plan includes the AI scribe, prescription review, Medi assistant and the other AI features under a monthly AI budget. Clinics add them per doctor at ₹1,499 a month.

How to compare two quotes

Once each quote is in the worksheet, these questions usually decide it.

  • Is the price for the whole hospital, or for the modules you saw in the demo?
  • What happens to the price when you add ten staff, or twenty beds?
  • Who owns and can export your data if you leave, and in what format?
  • Where is the data hosted, and does the system keep working when the internet drops?
  • Are GST invoices, statutory registers and TPA claims included or extra?
  • What does the year-two renewal look like, in writing?

Is free hospital management software worth it?

Open-source systems such as Bahmni and OpenMRS are free to download, and government hospitals often use eHospital from NIC. For a private hospital, free software still has a price: a server, someone to install and update it, customisation to fit Indian billing and GST, and nobody to call when the cash desk stops at 11 in the morning.

Free is a good choice when you have an IT team and time. If you do not, compare it on the same three-year worksheet as the paid options, counting the staff time it needs.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

How much does hospital management software cost per month in India?

It varies widely by pricing model. As a reference, Curanto costs ₹999 a month for a single-doctor clinic, ₹5,999 for a nursing home of up to 30 beds and ₹17,999 for a hospital of up to 150 beds, on yearly billing and excluding GST, with no per-user fees.

Is GST charged on hospital software?

Yes. Software subscriptions are taxed at 18% GST, and hospitals and clinics usually cannot claim it back, so compare quotes with GST added. Curanto quotes prices excluding GST, like most vendors, and shows the full amount with GST at checkout and on the invoice.

What is AMC in hospital software?

An annual maintenance contract: a yearly fee, usually a percentage of the licence price, that pays for updates and support after you buy a one-time licence. Subscriptions usually include both.

Should a small hospital buy a licence or subscribe?

Most hospitals under 50 beds are better served by a subscription: no server to buy, no AMC, and the vendor carries upgrades and backups. A licence can make sense for a large hospital with its own IT team and data centre.
