What an AI medical scribe is, and what it is not

An AI medical scribe listens to the consultation and drafts the clinical note, so the doctor can look at the patient instead of the keyboard. It is not a diagnosis engine and it does not sign anything. The doctor reads the draft, edits what needs editing and finalises the note, exactly as they would with a human scribe.

Curanto's scribe is part of the EMR rather than a separate app. The note it writes is the consultation record itself, the medicines it hears land in the prescription, and the tests land in the orders, so nothing is copied between systems.

Built for Indian consultations

A busy Indian OPD doctor sees forty to eighty patients a day, and a consultation rarely stays in one language. A doctor in Ahmedabad may ask in Gujarati, explain in Hindi and write in English. The scribe detects the language line by line, so a code-mixed conversation is heard as one, and the note is always written in English.

A next-steps dock walks the doctor through the note, the prescription, the lab orders, the bill and the next patient, one click each. From the prescription, the AI review checks the medicines against the patient's allergies, conditions, age and weight and suggests what to counsel. Privacy, stated plainly

Audio is never stored. The recording is transcribed, and before the transcript reaches the language model that writes the note, the patient's name and mobile, other phone numbers, Aadhaar numbers, dates of birth and email addresses are removed. Sessions are private to the doctor on top of the organisation's row-level security, and Discard leaves only an audit row.

Transcription and note writing run on AI model providers through OpenRouter, which may process the text outside India; the database itself is hosted in India. The Curanto AI page lists exactly what each AI feature sends.
